The Ttable Concept
Ttable is a not for profit organization that exists because 854 million people worldwide suffer from malnutrition while at the same time a third of household waste is made up of food that could have been consumed. We believe dire socio-economic conditions produces hunger, therefore, hunger can be alleviated by making available the excess food of the privileged to the poor.
Ttable stands for “total table” – tables that are set up in front of easily accessible places such as schools, colleges, restaurants and businesses where individuals, families and corporations can leave their excess food for collection and redistribution to the neediest groups in their community.
The Ttable concept is based on a principle of sharing and exchange between people living in the same local area. This is a simple but incredibly effective solution for the age-old problem of hunger. Ttable intends to create awareness amongst communities that if we work together, we can make a difference – one household at a time.
Ttable Mission
Our mission is to fight hunger by promoting person-to-person food aid and discouraging food wastage.
What we do: We promote the set up of Ttables that are tables where people can leave their excess food for the neediest people in their communities to access. We also seek to raise awareness amongst communities about reducing their excess consumption by buying only what is necessary and to share with others when they have too much.
Who will benefit? Everyone. We are targeting whole communities to take part in this collective action in both developed and developing countries. Ttables ensure that food is not wasted and that poor people do not go hungry. Community members will also begin to reflect on their lifestyle and consumption choices as their excess food is laid out in front of them and the desperate needs of others become visible to them.
Vision:
Ttable envisages a world without hunger. We hope to see the redistribution of excess foods made accessible to the poorest groups in society through the set up of Ttables around the world. On the long term, we hope to see a reduction of the private and public food wastage that occurs daily on a worldwide scale.
